Announcements:
We will be using TPRS® (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling, originated by Blaine Ray) in our class: TPRS is a powerful teaching methodology that is based on proven techniques and sound pedagogy. An input-based methodology, TPRS focuses on specific activities and techniques that expose the learner to an abundance of authentic language in a condensed period of time. It simulates a hybrid immersion experience by eliminating its flaws- INcomprehensible input and excessive amounts of time- while maintaining the powerfully effective aspects of an immersion experience: context, comprehensible messages, natural and useful language and a great deal of repetition (Carol Gaab, 2009). Want more detailed information about the method? Read on at the links below…

A little background about the new song: “Matador-” It makes a reference to Victor Jara, a revolutionary Chilean singer/songwriter who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by Pinochet’s goverment after the coup in 1973 (”Victor Jara no calla”, meaning, “Victor Jara will not be silent”).
As of Monday, Sept. 28, all classes are now beginning to learn vocabulary from the Blaine Ray series of books: "Look, I Can Talk." Look I Can Talk More." and Look I'm Still Talking."

- WHY READ BLOGS WRITTEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES?? Read carefully, and you will see!
- I am suggesting another blog for you to read. If you are interested in Costa Rica, Karen Rowan who writes some of the readers for TPRStory Telling, has move for a year there, taking her 13 year old reluctant daughter. The blog has only just started, like Juanita's below, so it is possible to read and watch, from the beginning, how an American teenager adjusts to one of the most beautiful places on the planet, when she REALLY would rather be back in Colorado with her friends. There are Great Photos, Interesting Anticdots about adjusting to Latin American life, and new Spanish phrases occur once in a while that Karen and her daughter learn, used just in Costa Rica. If you like beaches, white water rafting, surfing, snorkeling, diving, read this blog:
- Hint: I will start taking extra credit questions from Karen's blog above, and Juanita's blog, below on all future EXAMS!
- To read a blog written by a girl just a couple years older than you, from Spokane, who just moved to El Salvador to live with her dad for a year, log on to:
You will learn alot about her contact with the Salvadorian culture that she is not used to, about her immersion in to the language again, and about her relationship with a dad that she only sees once every few years. The last time she lived in El Salvador she was only 10 years old.
